Talk is cheap

Boy 2: Mom can we ride our bikes.

Me: No, I've been really busy today and I just want to relax. I don't want to come outside and watch you. (In 100 degree weather)

Boy 2: (whining) Come on, Mom!

Boy 1 : Lay off. Mom has done a lot for us today. (Atta boy!)

Boy 2: Okay. (Defeated)

Me: Thank you, Boy 1, for sticking up for me. (Proud Mother)

Mini Me: Do we get anything for sticking up for you? (Always negotiating)

Me: How about my undying love?

Mini Me: No. I mean something that shows us you love us. (Too smart for her own good)

  1. I can't believe the summer is already 1/3 over here...probably closer to half for you!
Don't you love it when kids grasp the art of subtle manipulation?

  3. I love knowing that my children aren't the only con artists constantly on the make.

  4. I took my kids to Target today to use all the gift cards they've amassed over a six month period of Christmas, birthdays, and Valentine's Day. They hauled home more Ben 10, Nerf, Polly Pocket, Transformers, and Dora merchandise than they even get under the Christmas tree.

They think I'm the greatest mom ever, and I didn't have to spend ANY money. Sweet!

  7. That's when I would say, "You get dinner tonight and a roof over your head, not to mention clean clothes to wear and a clean house, what more do you want?" My kids don't appreciate my guilt trips. They'd much rather have a trip to Target like elastic's kids.

  10. Ha! How sweet and funny. Kids are so cute with their perspective.

My son asked me yesterday if he got a prize for making his bed without being asked. I told him the prize is feeling good inside. What I should have told him was that the prize was not getting yelled at to make it for the 100th time! :D

  12. This is what I do to show you I love you:
Merriam-Webster has includedBollywood in their new dictionary.

  14. Kids these days... they've all got a bit of used car salesman in them, don't you think? So suave in their manipulation. :)

  16. Heh Heh....sounds like a conversation I have every single day at my house. I have a "WIIFM" kid (what's in it for me). Totally exhausting!

  18. I would think that you show them everyday that you love them that's the kind of person that you are....so they are truly spoiled. That’s the best kind of spoiled to be!

But I do think that kids think that they need some kind of reward for doing things that are things that were just expected of us when we were young.

J gets paid at her fathers for cleaning the house $20.00, so she wants to know what we are going to pay her to help out at our house. If she did clean the whole house $20.00 isn’t that much to pay, but she isn’t going to learn what I want to teach her.

  19. My kids get the standard, "If it weren't for your father and me, you wouldn't amount to JACK SQUAT! You'd be eating a steady diet of government cheese, and living in a VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!!!" lecture. Thank you Matt Foley, for such parenting gems.

  26. I'm still off my game and suffering with my cracked molar but I'm relieved to know that "Annie you're OK, Annie you're OK, Annie."

Okay, is there a statue of limitations on lame dried-up jokes? Will I be prosecuted for bringing it up again? If you need me, I'll be researching new Annie jokes down at the library.
