Calling all my Homies

Hello, my fellow Home and Garden enthusiasts. I would like your input for my next article. I want to know about your household chores that need to be done every so often, but tend to get over looked. For instance, vacuuming your mattresses, deodorizing the waste disposal, washing the outside windows, or changing the batteries in the smoke detectors. What are your every-so- often" chores and how do you do them? Do you have a system in place to remind you to do them? What chores have you been putting off until you have more time?

Thanks for the help. Don't forget to check out my new poll on my sidebar!

  1. Cleaning the light fixtures - I usually wait until I can't stand looking at the bug bits, then I break down and wash 'em.

We change the batteries on the smoke detectors every LDS General Conference Weekend. It's also when we check our 72 hour kits.

Steam cleaning the carpets (myself-- I don't like the way the so-called Pros do it) every quarter (Before Christmas Parties, Spring Break, When School Gets out, and when school starts).

  3. I hate dusting all the blinds!!!! My system is to wait until my mom comes in town and then she sees how nasty they are and dusts them for me. If I do it myself I use a Swiffer duster and then a regular cloth rag to get any hard-to-reach places.

  5. I am always surprised with the amount of stuff that accumulates in the couches. I try to get to it at least once a month, it ends up being more like every six months.

  7. Because I don't always remember when I cleaned the light fixtures in the bathroom or those jobs that don't need to be done on a weekly basis, I use a card system. It has really helped.

  8. wow, yvonne is so organized..a card system. i need to do that. i read somewhere once to add one big task to your weekly cleaning list. so, each week you would do your regular cleaning but tag on cleaning the baseboards or washing the windows. i do this but don't have it organized or anything. good luck with your article..i know it will be great!

  10. I vacuum every day. Mondays and Fridays I vacuum under the sofa cushions. It can get nasty under there.

  11. I wash the outside windows when I have difficulty seeing out.

I change the batteries in the smoke detectors when they start beeping at me.

Confession time...I quit cleaning my house when I started working on the wedding! I buy groceries, cook dinner, pay the bills, do the laundry...and work on the wedding! Kris has been doing the floors. Lauren SORT OF does the bathroom. The bed is not made. Oh, well! :/
