"Just wash it already!"

DAY 5
My response to Amanda's question (and it's a good one, indeed), "Why not just wash your hair?" became so long I decided to turn it into a post!

Why not wash the hair? My long hair can be time consuming to maintain. It requires more shampoo/conditioner. Harder to brush. Longer to dry. I don't do the straight look. I either hot roller or use the spiral curling iron on it everyday, hence the now famous hair fabulousness.

I very rarely put it in a pony and call it good. I feel like my face shape doesn't lend to the slicked back look of a pony. A fuller head of hair I think flatters my form;)

Fortunately, I don't have a a scalp that produces a lot of oil, unlike Secret Agent Man. Sheez! You should see his pillow. We never get confused on whose pillow is whose because his always has the light tinge of yellow.

I guess it does become a contest of sorts to see how long I can still make it look good and smell good without washing it.
My normal hair routinee is washing it every other day. On a clean hair day it gets hot rolled, on the dirty hair day it gets spiraled. The latter of which has become my signature look. Every once in awhile life will get busy and I will only have time for a quick sponge bath and I will have to skip the usual rigamaroll. (<---That's right, I just typed rigamaroll). Sometimes I will get Carronin involved in my little contest. If I remember right, she usually beats me because she does look good in a pony and that can buy her a couple extra days.
Today I used a trick I learned at Girls Camp, one of the more valuable things I learned. You sprinkle baby powder on your hair and then brush it out. This helps with the oil and the smell. You can't smell me, but I guarantee you my hair smells like a babies bottom. A freshly bathed and powdered babies bottom.

  1. I have to wash my hair everyday. The wind blows, and my hair gets greasy. I hate it. My oldest sister can go a week without washing and you can't tell the difference. It's not fair.

  2. You must have so much patience to hot roll or spiral your hair EVERY SINGLE DAY. Except this week of course.

  3. I wash my hair every other day with Tea Tree Oil shampoo because I'm so very greasy.

There's a lady at church who sucks on the ends of her hair. I want to believe thats part of her hair health beauty regimen too.

  4. Ack! Your hair looks that good after not washing it for 5 days? Mine gets too yucky if I don't wash it... but, I can wear it in a pony tail. And I would love to say that makes us even, but that would be a lie.

  5. Hate to admit this but I wash mine twice a week. Yep, you heard correctly. I dunk it under the water most days but I have reached an agreement with my hair and it is not to overwash it. And after a lifetime of dry curls, it is much happier with this new resolution.

Mind you, I've gone a week without washing on a backpacking trip and IT DID NOT LOOK ANY DIFFERENT.

Still trying to figure out if that is good or bad. :-)

  6. I do pony tails, whether or not I look good in them. First day=good hair, second day=pony, third day=pony and a hat. Wash and repeat.

  7. Wow your hair looks fantastic! I would never have known that it hadn't been washed.

I'm with Carrot. I have to wash my hair every day or it just looks greasy. I do ponytails a lot which help, but my hair definitely looks best when I blow dry it. Some weeks, Sunday is the only day that I actually get around to it!

I'll try to your baby powder trick to see if that works. Hmm...no baby powder here. Annie, do I have your permission to get pregnant so I don't have to have greasy hair? ;)

  8. I do my hair washing every other day unless I have no place to go. Sometimes I have been known to cover it up with a baseball hat. I am definately not a fashion savvy gal. I have hair that is in between curly and frizzy. I hate it. Sometimes the hat is just for the best.

  10. I am sorry but this has been one of my favorite posts! I love learning about y'alls hair washing habits. What can I say? I like talking about hair!

If you have dry hair, do as some of the ladies have suggested and wash less frequently or wash your hair with just conditioner, instead of conditioner and shampoo. I do this for Mini Me and her naturally curly hair. I only use shampoo with her conditioner ever other week. Her curls look fabulous.

  11. Thanks for setting me straight. Speaking of straight, I wish my hair did anything besides straight. My hair is too fine to hold a curl. In high school I used to have very long hair and I would always perm it. My hair is also very thick. I remember it taking me forever to get ready for school because of my hair. I wish I would have known your secret back then. :D

  12. I used to be like carrot jello, till we moved up north where it's so dry you can feel the moisture being sucked out of you. Suddenly I can go two or three days, no prob. Love it!

I was a baby powderer in high school. I still get nostalgic wheneve I smell that smell. Mmmm...

  13. I'm impressed. I can go a day ro two but after that, I'm toast. I also admire the fact that you do it every day. I'm a lazy one. Ponys abound in my house.

  14. I love you signature look! I love the spirals, it's fabulousitous!
That's 5 days of unwashed hair? It still looks beautiful.

I have to wash mine every other day, anymore I can't stand. It gets greasy and not prety at all.
I didn't know about the baby powder. That's why I love Anniethology: It gives me teh things I need to go about my life.

PS: I am mad at Newsgator for not telling me you had a new post. I'm way down here :(
Nad it doesn't smell good either.

  16. i wash my hair every other day, or even less. it helps my color last longer and it's better on my hair.

and i never really liked the baby powder, it never seemed to work the way i wanted. so then i contemplated buying a very expensive thing of bumble & bumble hair powder but then read a review online about how you can just use cornstarch and it's like pennies compared to the the b&b stuff and does the exact same thing.

i, too, love hair stories. i could read all day! and your hair is so fabulous!

  17. I used to be able to beat Annie at a how long can we go without washing our hair contest. But as I get older I can only go about two days without my hair getting greasy. Annie, five whole days that's impressive.Mama would be so proud.
Lets see if you can make it a week.

  18. Ok, so, I was so excited to read about the Tijuana Christmas (I just love that picture) but when I clickety on th elinkie I go to "Organization gets girls in third though sixth grade off and running" :(

  19. Are you going for a week of no shampoo? I need to see pictures every day.
    Porfavor.

  20. bumble and bumble has a powder spray that absorbs the oil--I saw it on a local gab fest show and the ladies raved about it

I have the greasies too if I don't wash it every day. :(

  21. Wow that takes some dedication. Personally I need finger style hair. Hair you just wet and style with gel and fingers. Yay! I did the getting up an hour early to fix my hair thing in high school and I just can't go back.

  22. If my hair looked like that after not washing for 5 days, I wouldn't wash it either. But I am not so lucky!

  23. I have the same routine you do with washing my hair and if it's done straight I do the baby powder the second day. If I do curly, it's a pony tail the second day.

  24. I wash my hair every day, but then I am the hair spray queen!!!

  25. What does it say about me that this is a most enjoyable post?
But the maintenance with the curling iron and the rollers? Wow. You are commited to your signature look.
    I'm commited to my ponytail.
    We'll see how I feel when I'm 50.
