I hate the Tooth Fairy!

The downside of having trusting, faithful, loyal children is that, after what feels like a jillion missing teeth later, they still believe in the Tooth Fairy. Whether my ten-year-olds deep down think she is real or still believe in the process-put tooth under pillow, get money-is besides the point, I'm still paying them $$ for losing teeth.

I've been delinquent in my Tooth Fairy duties as of late (that's nothing new). So, I tried to come up with something extra special. Despite the $$, I love that my ten-year-old boys will still hold hands with me in public, they still love stuffed animals, and the still believe in the Tooth Fairy.

Tonight, I spent 45 minutes learning how to fold a dollar into a heart. Too bad that blanking Tooth Fairy is going to get all the credit.

  2. you are such a good mommy to fold money into a heart. and ava lost her first tooth last month and still refuses to put her tooth under her pillow. she doesn't care if the tooth fairy is cute and pretty and will leave her money, she refuses to give leave to have an unknown something come into her room at night, in the dark and fish under her pillow for a tooth. it absolutely freaks her out. i kind of don't blame her.

  3. I am sick of the stupid Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny and that Santa Claus getting all the credit for the cool stuff.

If you think about it - the Tooth Fairy is dang creepy... sneaking into a room...taking teeth?

    Weird.

  4. My 10-year-old doesn't believe in the Tooth Fairy...but she still wants a tooth payday!

Maybe if I learn how to do the folded heart she will be happy with only $1 instead of the usual $3.

  5. Yeah, my younger daughter (9 1/2) got mad last weekend when the Tooth Fairy neglected her duty. Both of my girls still believe in the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, & Santa. Or at least they claim to.

  6. You are a great mom--good job. One day--in the not too distant future, they'll know (probably at that point they won't remember about the heart-shaped dollar ; )

  8. My tooth fairy was a big burly dad type who wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of glitter wings. He kept all the teeth in an antique, silver sugar bowl...GACK!

Tooth fairies are freaky weird, leave a quarter under the pillow and save the awesome dollar heart for Valentines day.

My boys, even the big ones still hold hands in public and love stuffed animals. Boys Rock!

  9. Aub- They still believe in Santa, too. Santa gives them the less expensive gifts. We take the credit for the big stuff! Ha!

    Carolyn- Three bucks?! Wowza!

  10. My three oldest know that I am the tooth fairy for them. #3 just found out a week or two ago. He lost a tooth at school and basically told the Aide there that he didn't believe in the tooth fairy because there is no such thing as magic. Then he asked me if I am the tooth fairy and I came clean, but told him not to tell the two younger boys, especially since the youngest hasn't lost any teeth yet.

  16. This post got me singing that "Dollar, Dollar Bill, Y'all!" stripper song.

  17. I wish the Tooth Fairy was real. I'd get dentures and then "accidentally" lose them every night.

You gotta do what you gotta do in this economy.

  18. Okay, I totally know how you feel. This is the reason I started hating Santa. I spent all those hours looking for just the right gifts that would light up their eyes.

I fired the Easter Bunny. I told the kids he was too expensive and we could draw names and be the Easter Bunny for each other.
    It's been a hit.

So anyway, I was just saying that I understand your feelings toward the Tooth Fairy.

  19. My boy (age 6) has a loose tooth and thought it would be cool to lose it on Christmas Eve because he wasn't sure if the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause knew each other (he'd be very surprised to know that they sleep in the same bed!) Unfortunately, the tooth didn't come out. He's shooting for Easter.

  20. You did an awesome job! I've never been that creative with the money. My 10 year old sounds like yours. I'm about over the whole Tooth Fairy thing, too! :-)

  22. One more thing:
Did you know it's Sarah Palin's 45th b-day & Jennifer Aniston's 40th? Just heard that on the radio. And thought, "Does Annie know??" :)

  23. Lauren speaks the truth...I failed miserably and traumatized her. :(

However, at age 17, it was probably about time she faced reality.

  24. Your ten-year-old boys remind me a lot of my youngest son. At nearly 14 years of age, he still hugs me every day when I drop him off at school! :)

  25. I owe my daugther still some back tooth fairy money. She has lost 2 teeth, and the tooth fairy did not have any change on hand to give. So I just told her I owed her something later. What I would like to know is who came up with this paying for lost teeth bit any way?
